Today’s trek leaves the rainforest and enters moorland with sweeping views of the Shira Plateau. The hike is steady and rewarding, with the landscape gradually opening up. By afternoon, you’ll reach Shira 1 Camp, set on a grassy plain with stunning mountain vistas.

The trek across the Shira Plateau is relatively easy, giving you ample time to acclimatize and enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo Peak. The route passes through moorland meadows dotted with wildflowers before reaching Shira 2 Camp.

A challenging day begins with a climb towards Lava Tower at 4,600m, an important acclimatization stop. After lunch near the tower, you’ll descend into the Barranco Valley, famous for its giant groundsels and dramatic scenery.

Today starts with the thrilling climb up the Barranco Wall, a highlight of the trek. From the top, the trail follows gentle ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp. This day is shorter, designed for acclimatization.

The trek ascends steadily towards Barafu Camp, your base camp before the summit. The landscape is stark and rocky, with striking views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. You’ll rest early in preparation for the midnight summit attempt.

The summit day begins just after midnight. You’ll ascend slowly but steadily towards Stella Point on the crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you’ll descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
